Nick The Cat is a small town hero from Midland, MI. He spends his time roaming the neighborhood in search of neighbors in need of a little love. Nick was asked to submit his thoughts on what community and being a neighbor meant to him. So here is his first submission of

My name is Nick the Cat. I was asked to write about community. Community is a big, big word. Lots of letters. My Ma says it just means working together & caring about those around you. This is I am EXPERT!

I am the King of caring - For I am Nick the Cat. And THIS is my neighborhood.

I have many, many hoomans that I must care for. Some are tall. Some are small. Some give good belly rubbins. And some give the bestest ear scritchy scratches. But they all must have my snugs and cuddles to have a good day.

2020 was hard - zero stars. 2021 is meh too. My peoples seem tired. My peoples seem stressed. My peoples need me. I am their LOVE NINJA.

I know when they need snugs and I show up to give them my lovins. I do not “purr” like the average kitty. The average purr is for peasants. MY “purr” is my super power! My motor is loud and absolutely puurrfect. And I must run it ALL THE TIME in my people’s ears so they know… 

They are worthy. They are wonderful. And they are good hoomans with big hearts for love. 

I use my superpower to make sad booboos go away and make hoomans happy again! 

You see I work very, very hard to make sure everyone in my love loop gets their lovins. It’s a lot of hard work and walking. But, my hoomans need me.

I even help the mailman deliver the mail. This is not easy to do. Hims has long legs and does a walk super fast. Hims needs to slow down and roll in the grass a bit. But Hims does not listen. So I run to make sure hims ok and safe. I am certain he could not do these things without me. Again this is a lot of work, but he has nice legs and gives good belly rubs. 

My Ma now makes me wear a silly shirt so folks know I have a “home”. But I know I have many homes and many families that I must care for. I am the fiercest of protectors. I keep a close watch to make sure all arrive home safe and sound. I think this is what means community.
